Born in Kenya, East Africa, Favell has travelled and lived in a variety of places. She was privileged to start her art studies in Italy with Signorina Simi (whose father was the teacher of Pietro Annigoni) in Florence before moving on to the Accademia di Belle Arti for a Diploma in Fine Arts under the tuition of the prominent artist Silvio Loffredo. She has also lived in Cyprus, Sweden, Finland and the U.S.A.
In America she stayed in Austin, Texas, where she had the opportunity to continue her art studies and was influenced by the American artist and teacher Betty Edwards and her book “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”.
Favell moved to England in 1998 from Northern Cyprus and now lives in Sidmouth, Devon. She travels to Finland every year and enjoys painting Finnish landscapes under the special light conditions there around midsummer. Her principal medium is pastel, as it is one of the most direct and versatile means of catching the fast-moving light patterns of Nature.
Favell is currently concentrating on seascapes and beach life in her work. She has shown her work at various local exhibitions and galleries in the South West. Her work was featured in the Pastel Artist International magazine in 2001. Favell taught art at Adult and Community Learning centres in East Devon, specialising in drawing and working with pastels, but now teaches privately. She accepts commissions.
Favell’s portrait commissions include military portraits, such as The Royal Dragoon Guards, The Princess Patricia Regiment of Canada and The Airborne Regiment of Canada, while they were stationed in Cyprus (1986 – 1990). Private portraits include children and pet animals, in both pastel and oil. Her work can be found in private and public collections around the world, including the private collection of the late long-time President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Rauf Denktas, and the Parliament House of Northern Cyprus.
